Avoid unions and other factors that could disable my company by collaborating with my employees demand and by coming with understanding when problem occur. For example, laws to protect the consumer, employees, and Health and safety regulations, all must be obeyed. If they are not, there may be serious consequences to deal with. Technological Forces An organization must constantly be aware of technological advances in order to remain competitive and increase productivity. Technology is constantly changing, and to keep one step ahead of the market I must continually keep checks on the advances and use them to my benefit. Cultural Forces I think my clothesline will be successful, partly due to a gap in the market, but also due to the high amount of rainfall and snow in the US. To kill a mocking bird Free Essays
To Kill a Mockingbird Courage cannot be defined with simple words but rather by an individualââ¬â¢s actions. Despite many different definitions courage is someoneââ¬â¢s internal fortitude to do something that may frighten others. In To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Gemââ¬â¢s definition of courage changes from the beginning to the end of the book. We will write a custom essay sample on To kill a mocking bird or any similar topic only for you Order Now At the beginning of the book Gemââ¬â¢s definition of courage is from an innocent perspective and by the end of the book Gem has an experienced definition of courage. Gem learns the lea definition of courage from it being demonstrated in his everyday life in Macomb. At the beginning of Harper Leeââ¬â¢s , To Kill a Mockingbird Gem shows a naive, innocent view of courage because of his fears. Dill dears Gem to touch the Raddled house, which has always been one of his worst fears. Gem displays courage by touching the Raddled and hides his angst when reporting back to Dill and Scout. Gem dreads touching the Raddled house only because of his scary childlike imagination. Lee writes,â⬠Gem threw open the gate and sped to the side of the house, slapped it with is alma and ran back past usâ⬠(118). Gemââ¬â¢s courage comes into play when he is told to do something he terrifies by his peers. Gem continues to demonstrate an innocent perspective of courage in the early part of the novel. Gem still has an inexperienced view of courage because he is still at a youth and is immature to his surroundings. Gemââ¬â¢s youthful imagination forms ideas to get in contact with the horrifying Boo Raddled. He decides to put a note on a fishing pole and stick it threw the Raddled window. The note was asking Boo out for ice cream, so the children can meet him. Harper Lee says, ââ¬Å"Were asking him real politely to come out sometimes, and tell us what he does in there ââ¬â we said we wouldnââ¬â¢t hurt him and weââ¬â¢d buy him an ice creamâ⬠(62). Gemââ¬â¢s perspective of courage is slowly starting to advance because he was scared to death when he first went on the Raddled property. Gem demonstrates an innocent perspective on courage by engaging in childish games but he begins to learn the real view of courage by witnessing his dad in action. Gem believes Tactics doesnââ¬â¢t have courage until he shoots the Mad Dog to save the community from harm, UT Gemââ¬â¢s view is still a naive one. The Mad Dog is beginning to approach in the distance when Officer Heck Tate throws Tactics the gun. Tactics takes the gun and walks to the center of the street showing no hesitation. Even though Tactics hasnââ¬â¢t shot a gun in 30 years he kills Mad Dog with a single shot showing an outrageous amount of courage. Lee states, ââ¬Å"In the fog, Gem watched our father take the gun and walk out into the middle of the streetâ⬠(127). Tactics has an abundant amount of courage, even to something that he hasnââ¬â¢t done in 30 years. Although Gem thinks Tactics shooting the dog is courageous, he learns the real definition through the actions of Mrs.. Dubos. Gemââ¬â¢s adult definition of courage is beginning to form from experience in the Macomb community. Gem learns the real definition of courage from Mrs.. Dubos who was a recovering morphine addict . Mrs.. Dubos makes a goal for herself to die free of her weakness. She dies UN-addicted to morphine and she is Gemââ¬â¢s real definition of courage. Harper Lee says, ââ¬Å"When you are licked before you begin but you begin anyway and see it through no matter whatâ⬠(119). Mrs.. Doubleââ¬â¢s fight exemplifies to Gem, no matter how hard something looks to never give up. Mrs.. Dubos didnââ¬â¢t give up on her morphine addiction and came out on top. Mrs.. Debase teaches Gem the true definition of courage, and Gem does a fantastic Job exemplifying it in front of the courthouse. Gem is beginning to have an experienced adult like sense of courage. In front of the courthouse Tactics is sitting one night and the mob shows up asking to see Tom Robinson. Gem and the kids run to Tactics because they knew his life is in danger. Tactics tells the kids to leave and Gem shows an extraordinary amount of courage saying that he wasnââ¬â¢t leaving. A mob member grabbers Gem telling Tactics he will make him leave. Scout stares kicking the man in the shins and eventually put Gem down. Gem still refuses to leave his father and tells him we are staying. Lee saysâ⬠Tactics stood trying to make Gem mind him. I ant going was his steady answer to Atticââ¬â¢s threat request and finally â⬠please take them home Gemâ⬠(204). Gem not leaving his fathers side until the mob departed shows how courageous Gem is becoming. Gem demonstrates an innocent perspective on courage by engaging in childish games, but he begins to learn the real view of courage witnessing his dad in action. Gem is beginning to demonstrate a more experienced sense of courage, from confronting the mob to saving Scout from Bob Lowell. Although Gem previously had a naive perspective of courage he now has a more experienced and adult like sense of courage. Gem and Scout are attacked when walking home from the Halloween play. Gem pushes Bob Lowell off of Scout saving her from any serious injuries. If Gem didnââ¬â¢t push Bob Lowell off of Scout then he would eve mostly likely stabbed and killed her. Gem Jumped in and freed Scout from being harmed potentially in any way. Harper Lee states, ââ¬Å"His stomach was soft but his arms were like steel. He slowly squeezed the breath out of me. I could not move. Suddenly he Jerked me back and forth to the ground, almost carrying me with himâ⬠(351). Gem will not let Bob Lowell hurt his little sister in anyway so he does everything in his power to protect her from being injured. After Gem learns the real actions of courage and has an experienced view he saves Scout from Bob Lowell. How to cite To kill a mocking bird, Papers To Kill a Mocking Bird Free Essays In Harper Leeââ¬â¢s To Kill a Mocking Bird, Atticus Finch possesses many characteristics that shape him as a man, a lawyer and a father. Atticus is a wise man, devoted to justice and equality, and who feels it is his duty to live his public life as he does his private life. Atticus is also a very honest and loving father who has nothing but the best intentions for his children, Scout and Jem. We will write a custom essay sample on To Kill a Mocking Bird or any similar topic only for you Order Now Atticus is devoted to putting his legal profession before his self-image, or public perception, and is able to realize that the individual worth of a man without incorporating physical appearances. All the positive characteristics Atticus Finch possesses contribute to the reason why he is very respected and liked by most of the people of Macomb County as well as his family and close friends. Atticus living his public life as he does his private life defines what he stands for and holds a duty he feels is important for him to fulfill as a man. When Atticus and Sherriff Heck Tate discuss what caused Bob Ewellââ¬â¢s death the night he attacked Jem and Scout, the Sheriff tells Atticus that Bob killed himself when he fell on his knife. However, Atticus does not believe Heck and he believes that Jem killed Bob and tells Heck Tate ââ¬Å"If they [Scout and Jem] hear me saying downtown something different happened-Heck I wont have them anymore. I cant live one way in town and another way in my home. â⬠(367) This quote shows Atticus is willing and devoted to make any sacrifice to live an honest and unconcealed life including letting the public know, Jem killed Bob Ewell. Atticus always tries to be the best father he can by trying to get his kids to notice and appreciate all of the good things that are present in the world even in such a prejudice and discriminatory town such as Maycomb during the 1930ââ¬â¢s. When Atticus and Jem are talking about the recently deceased Mrs. Dubose, Atticus tells Jem. ââ¬Å"Courage is not a man with a gun in his hand. It is knowing youââ¬â¢re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do. â⬠(149) By telling this to Jem Atticus taught Jem an important life lesson. He taught Jem success is not always about winning, but instead just trying to fight for a good cause. Atticus believed you were successful if you fought for a good cause, even if you failed. Atticus is committed to always doing the right thing when it comes to his profession whether it means he will be risking his reputation or even his life. This trait of Atticus is clearly demonstrated when Scout questions Atticus about the Tom Robinson case and says, ââ¬Å"Atticus, are we going to win itâ⬠and he replies ââ¬Å"No, honeyâ⬠which leads to her question ââ¬Å"Then why-â⬠(101). Atticus is revealing to Scout that even though he has more to lose than to gain out of this situation he is accepting of that because he is doing what his conscience is telling him is the noble, fair thing to do, and he is trying to ignore all the negative influences that appears to him in Maycomb County. This is also revealed when Atticus is protecting Tom from a group of dangerous men who are looking for revenge outside the jail. Atticus holds them off and risks his own safety to protect Tom because he knew Tom did not deserve what those men outside the jail were looking to do to him that night. Atticus is a humble, honest and devoted man. He is one of the few people in society who puts the needs of others before himself. By sharing the characteristics he acquired over many years with his children he is supporting them with the foundation to living a morally good life according to the standards of what they believe is right and wrong and not what it is made out to be by society. By sharing his knowledge and skills as a lawyer with those who are wrongfully convicted he is establishing justice in those parts in which justice seems not to exist. Atticus Finch is a man of good moral who sets a perfect example for those who are looking for a role model, a hero, and a loving father. How to cite To Kill a Mocking Bird, Papers

Unilever Policies Review free essay sample
Unilever is a global company which produces great amount of products every-day consumption. It has such brands as Lipton, Calve, Knorr, Dove, Rexona, Sunsilk, Domestos, etc. As you can see from this list this company is a real giant not only because it spreads its influence on a plenty of product markets, but is also known in different geographical areas. It has sustainable presence in more than 100 countries. Its corporate social responsibility system is aimed at 3 main spheres: customer relations, impact on environment, employees loyalty. Environmentally-friendly approach Unilever products are life-meaningfully dependent from water. For producing any kind of Unilever product, not only supplier but the company uses huge amount of water. As Unilever is concerned about decreasing resources of fresh water on the planet, it obliges its suppliers and all the plants all around the world to use water reasonably to minimize the damage to the nature. Employment policy Unilever is proud of everyone working in each of the numerous plants all over the world. We will write a custom essay sample on Unilever Policies Review or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Most important spheres of concern are labor security, hygiene and appropriate working conditions. As Unilever says, it implements new technologies to simplify the job of everyone. According to the special annual corporate review ââ¬Å"Unilever sustainable living planâ⬠, Unilever spends millions of dollars every year on inventory of new technologies which can possibly improve the working conditions of its employees as well as the quality of life of everyone on this planet. Customer health and fitness As well as positioning its products as healthy and appropriate for people with different health diseases, Unilever provides its customers with advice about how to achieve healthy life-style and keep the body fit and energetic. You can see these recommendations on different brochures and even on the packs of products. This is how Unilever helps the society to fight obesity, cancer and other dangerous hazards of our century. All the written above here was summarized from the official site of Unilever. And on the first sight everything seems OK, but surfing the Internet I encountered on terrible article about employee treatment in Pakistan. There are a lot of plants of tea production on the territory of Pakistan (brands Lipton and Brooke Bond). But only 22 out of 700 employees of the factory in Khaneval work on the permanent basement. Formally Unilever doesnââ¬â¢t break any legal policy, as it rewards the employees the minimum allowable wage, but at the same time these workers has no right to appeal the working scheme as it doesnââ¬â¢t provide them with rewards on illness and to earn this minimum wage they should work 26 days a month. But being outsourced these workers has no opportunity to beat this scheme except for strikes. To my mind, such huge company as Unilever which has global presence shouldnââ¬â¢t use such ââ¬Å"dirtyâ⬠schemes of cost-cutting. Instead of this it should give the workers the right to outspeak their mind by creating special committee, defending the rights of these workers, because the problem is not in financial motivator but in peoplesââ¬â¢ meaningfulness to this company. If there is no way for me to complain, how can I be meaningful for my company

Civil War American Essays - Slavery In The United States, Racism
Civil War: American The American Civil War In 1860, arguably the world's greatest nation was locked in Civil War. The war divided the country between the North (Union) and South (Confederate). The war lasted five years and by 1865 the Confederate forces were truly beaten. Out of this horrendous war though, where some 600,000 men died grew a greater sense of nationalism than is today, unrivalled around the world. The American Civil War is interpreted differently by many historians but most see the catalyst as slavery, the motivation as economic, the outcome was a unified national identity. Slavery was a major issue that triggered the American Civil War. Slavery started out, as a few individual slaves coming from England that were generally white. This changed however, and soon the Southern slave traders began 'stealing' blacks to take back to the South. The slaves were forced to work 16-hour days, slave women were only seen as breeders and there were no laws against the rape of a female slave. In 1860 slaves accounted for one third of the South's population and even still they had no rights (see appendix one). The Unionist North many people believed it was immoral to own another human being. These people were called Abolitionists. The South relied strongly on the slave trade and when the North spoke of abolishing it, the South spoke of forming there own country, The Confederate states of America. The South began to see that the North was going to take action against the South's inhumane slave policy. In early 1860, South Carolina formed under a new flag, Confederate States of America flag, so that they could continue to operate their slave trade. What followed was an ordinance of succession which saw the other slave populated states also swear an oath to the Confederate States of America, also so that they could continue their slave trade. This situation was found to be unworkable and it divided the country in two. So in the words of Abraham Lincoln, 'A house divide against itself can not stand. I believe this country can not endure permanently half-slave, half-free.' Slavery formed two opposing societies and could not have been abolished with out the Civil War. The North was very industrialised and had a stable economy in comparison to slave-dependant South. During the mid-1800s immigration to the North skyrocketed. Jones says, 'the immigration (many escaping the Irish potato famine) were willing to work for almost anything and withstand inhumane factory conditions.' Although this exploitation was extremely cruel and much like the treatment of the slaves in the South, the Northern economy profited immensely (Brinkley,1991:264). Come 1860, the Union had an overwhelming advantage over the South. The North played host to 109,974 industrial firms whereas the South had only 18, 026. The Northern States also produced 96%of the locomotives in the entire country, and as for firearms, more of them were made in Connecticut than in all the Southern factories combined ("Civil War", Encyclopedia Americana:1988). The Southerner's believed cotton to be their biggest industry and economic boosted during the Civil War but they had no factories capable of processing the cotton. The cotton was sent to Northern factories to be processed for a fraction of the price the Union sold it back to them for. This cycle alone made a huge idiosyncrasy in the economies. So with all the industrial and many economical advantages over the South was it any wonder that the North were victorious in the Civil War? The cost of the Civil was tremendous not only in money but in lives taken. By 1865, the South surrendered, slavery was abolished and President Lincoln was assassinated the total cost of the War for all American's was around 15 billion dollars but priceless for the 600,000 lives lost. What came out of this war however suprised everyone, in the next centaury America was seen as the strongest nation in the world. The cause of the war was finally resolved when slavery was abolished and because of this many inhumane slave owners went bankrupt with out the slaves running the farms. What followed the American can only be described as the birth of a Unified National Identity. In this period of 5 years in which many people died many of America's major problem have been solved. Since the Civil war towns have been rebuilt, mew industries flourish, and new schools have been erected. Now in America both the North and South live prosperously and peacefully together. Schenck describes America at the close of the war as, 'A developing industrial nation emerged from

What, when, where, why, and how, though not derived from Latin (theyââ¬â¢re all from Old English), are cognates words related to another by common descent from an ancient language of who, which is. In addition, quite a few words starting with qu- refer directly or indirectly to the concepts behind these basic interrogatives. Note in the etymologies listed after each term and before the definitions below how often the wh- words show up or are implied: Quality (qualis, ââ¬Å"of what kindâ⬠): character, air, or nature (ââ¬Å"He had a bookish quality to himâ⬠), property (ââ¬Å"The painting has an ephemeral qualityâ⬠), role (ââ¬Å"She adopted the quality of a mentorâ⬠), grade (ââ¬Å"The relative quality of the two brands is indistinguishableâ⬠) Quantity (quantus, ââ¬Å"how muchâ⬠or ââ¬Å"how largeâ⬠): amount or number (ââ¬Å"The quantity of items in the box is listed on the backâ⬠) Quandary (unknown; perhaps informally derived from quando, ââ¬Å"whenâ⬠): state of doubt or perplexity (ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m in a quandary about thatâ⬠) Quantum (quantus, ââ¬Å"how muchâ⬠): quantity, portion, or bulk, or a subdivision of energy or matter; usually used in the expression ââ¬Å"a quantum leap,â⬠which technically refers to a submicroscopic event but in popular usage denotes a significant increase or progress Question (quaerere, ââ¬Å"to seek, askâ⬠): an expression of inquiry, or something discussed or disputed; also, possibility ââ¬Å"(ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s no question of repairing itâ⬠) or objection (ââ¬Å"I have no question about his qualificationsâ⬠) Quiddity (quid, ââ¬Å"whatâ⬠): essence (ââ¬Å"The sculpture portrays the quiddity of the subjectââ¬â¢s frailtyâ⬠), or eccentricity or quibble (ââ¬Å"Despite her quiddities, I like herâ⬠) Quondam (quondam, ââ¬Å"at one timeâ⬠): erstwhile, former (ââ¬Å"I heard from my quondam friend Joe the other dayâ⬠) Quota (quota pars, ââ¬Å"how great a partâ⬠): a proportional share or limit (ââ¬Å"They met their quotaâ⬠) Quotidian (quotidie, ââ¬Å"every day,â⬠from quot, ââ¬Å"many, how manyâ⬠and dies, ââ¬Å"dayâ⬠): commonplace, everyday (ââ¬Å"Its quotidian lack of flair bored meâ⬠) Quotation (or Quote) (quot, ââ¬Å"how manyâ⬠): something repeated or referred to, or the process of doing so, but originally referred to numbering (ââ¬Å"Read the quotation from the bookâ⬠) Also, note quo (ââ¬Å"in whichâ⬠), which occurs in the ubiquitous ââ¬Å"status quoâ⬠(ââ¬Å"the state in whichâ⬠), the less common ââ¬Å"quid pro quoâ⬠(this for that), and ââ¬Å"quo vadisâ⬠(ââ¬Å"where are you going?â⬠), based on a verse in the Bible and popularized by a novel by that name and its screen adaptations but seldom used by writers and speakers of English. See the connections in the following words? Quiet is derived from quies, meaning ââ¬Å"rest or silence,â⬠as is while, which can also refer to a duration of time a quantity. Quit (from quietus, meaning ââ¬Å"freeâ⬠or ââ¬Å"calmâ⬠) implies the end of a quantity of time or action, while quite, in the senses of ââ¬Å"veryâ⬠and ââ¬Å"thoroughlyâ⬠degrees of quantity has the same etymological origin. And quiz may have a direct link: Itââ¬â¢s probably derived from qui es, which means ââ¬Å"who are you?â⬠Not all words beginning with qu- share these origins, of course. Quack and quail are onomatopoeic. Quaint, though stemming from Latin, is not derived from a qu- word. Queer is Germanic (quirk may be related), as are quench and quick, both from Old English. But one thing most qu- words share is some quality, quiddity, or quirk that makes them quite useful to writers. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Summarize the article Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Summarize the article - Essay Example The authors state that core mathematics programs that use an explicit and systematic instructional approach provide an in-depth coverage of the most critical areas of mathematics and help students with disabilities achieve the best and effective learning. This core programs reflect the current research on effective mathematics instruction meaning that they are highly developed to support the learning of mathematics for children with disabilities. The authors point out that much of the research done on this area have concentrated on the effects of small group intervention strategies. For learners with disabilities, modifications are required from time-to-time. Therefore, core programs give teachers the instructional foundation to make modifications that are required make the instructional intensity effective especially for struggling learners (Doabler, Jungjohann and Baker 50). Research has indicated that many reviews in the curriculum fail to address demonstration of target content, structured student practice and procedures to get academic feedback. However, there are certain guidelines that teachers can use to make their core mathematics instruction more explicit and systematic for children at risk of mathematics disabilities. However, the teachers must understand the importance of explicit and systematic instruction. First teachers must understand what explicit and systematic instruction entails. Research has indicated that children at risk of mathematics disabilities (MD) learn better, when teachers use explicit and systematic instruction. Explicit instruction is a method used for teaching essential skills in the most efficient manner. Explicit and systematic instruction entails unambiguous teaching models, sequencing of instructional examples, instructional scaffolding, timely feedback and cumulative review of the whole process. The second issue is the practical guidelines for examination and enhancement of core math instruction. The authors

Logistics and Supply Chain Management Case Study
Logistics and Supply Chain Management - Case Study Example This discussion stresses that a supply chain may not be used to only cut costs. Instead, it could also be used to increase revenues and hence profits. The costs could still remain the same. It gives an organization a competitive advantage against its competitors. It does not allow any sale to be lost. When the customer wants something, an effective supply chain would ensure that it is available. This increases the customerââ¬â¢s interest in the company and encourages brand loyalty. It also helps keep a close contact with the suppliers which ensures that maximum advantage can be gained out of doing business with them. This paper highlights that Zara is one of the largest brands, by the Inditex Fashion Retail Group, that has 723 stores in 56 countries making sales of Euro 3.8 billion. Zara has a very high product turnover. It makes more than 11,000 products annually. The annual report of Zara (Inditex) for the fiscal year 2006 covers all activities from February 2006 to January 2007. Zara opened 138 new stores during the past year, increasing its selling area by 15%. The sales were an increase of 21% at Euro 5,352 million. It earned net profit of Euro 1 billion an increase of 25%, was in contrast to last yearââ¬â¢s profit. The sales in Europe, with exception to Spain, were 40.6% of the total. After considering all this impressive data and the number of shops, it is clear why a widespread company like Zara needs a supply chain which is efficient.... (Inditex Annual Report, 2007) After considering all this impressive data and the number of shops, it is clear why a widespread company like Zara needs a supply chain which is efficient. Zara's fashion is based on imitation; it copies designs from the catwalk and other spots and brings them to their customers at low prices in as little as a couple of weeks. Since this is all the time that is given to them, the whole process of designing, ordering, producing and delivering the clothes to the stores must be quick and timely. If this is not done, Zara will not have enough new items to bring to the shelves (which is its technique) every two weeks. Since Zara does not advertise, this is the only way it can attract customers. When the
